Langton SWRI’s 80 birthday celebrations were enjoyed at their February meeting, andvisitors from Berwickshire Federation chairman Linda Riddell, vice chairman Mary Macfarlane and secretary Joan Stewart plus guests from Birgham, Coldstream, Eccles, Leitholm, and Whitsome Rurals were there for the celebrations.

The committee provided a lovely supper of soup and a sweet.

Annie Fish, Langton’s longest serving member of 54 years, cut the cake which was baked and iced by Cathie Allman and Christine Tait. Annie then shared memories of her life in Gavinton, being a member of the rural and making lots of friends along the way.

Ellen Curran read out the minutes of the inaugural meeting held in 1932, followed by Lady McEwen’s ‘guess the ration quantities’ quiz! Cathie Allman read a poem and all enjoyed the evening.

Langton Rural would like to thank all the invited guests for coming on a foggy night and to the committee for all the cooking, serving and washing up!

Next month’s meeting is on March 8 at 7.30pm when Hazel Smith will give a talk on the Red Cross.
