Lafarge search on for conservation expert
THE search is on to fill a unique year-long conservation role that will help develop a vision for wildlife and people at Lafarge Tarmac’s former North West quarry near Dunbar.
The job, which is being advertised by RSPB Scotland in conjunction with Lafarge Tarmac’s Dunbar cement plant, requires a relevant degree, communications skills and experience of similar projects. It will involve drawing up and co-ordinating habitat restoration proposals in line with a memorandum of understanding recently agreed between the two organisations.
Dan Brown from RSPB Scotland, who is overseeing the recruitment, says the successful candidate will be developing plans to maximise the quarry for wildlife, but also to ensure local people and visitors get the most out of visiting the site in future years.
“This will include proposals for short and long-term habitat creation and management, and ways to support nature-based activities and education,” he explained.
Nigel Blair, works manager at Dunbar, says an important part of the role will also be to act as liaison with local groups.
He added: “We are firmly committed to keeping our plans about future developments as transparent as possible, and good communication will be critical to this.”
The role will be advertised on www.environmentjob.co.uk during March and can also be found on the RSPB website.
