KOSB Malaya veterans Reunion

AROUND 200 former members of the 1st Btn Kings Own Scottish Borderers, along with partners and friends from other regiments and Corps, descended on Peebles last Thursday for their seventh annual reunion.

Members travelled from Berwick in the east to Stranrear in the west and from Inverness in the north to the south of England, and even Mr and Mrs R. Kernaghan made it from France.

It was very noticeable this year that many were wearing their ‘Pingat Jasi Malayasian Medal’ (PJMM) for the first time. This medal was presented to thousands of former members of the Armed Forces who served between August 1957 and August 1966 during the Emergency Operations there. The MOD and the British Goverment eventually did a ‘u-turn’ and the Queen gave her permission for it to be worn, for the first time on Remeberance Day 2011.

A warm welcome was given to all by Ogilvie Dickson, organiser of the reunion and prior to the meal ‘Grace’ was given by the Rev Haisley Moore, former padre of the Royal Highland Fusiliers. Guest speaker was Cameron Buttle and there was a draw in aid of funds. A Scottish cabaret followed before finishing of with a social.

This was to be Ogilvie’s final time organising this event so he was presented with a collection of minature daggers mounted in a frame.

It was generally agreed that this was one of the best events so far and everone is looking forward to September 19, 2013 for the next reunion.
