Kayaking doctor rises to challenge for charity

Doctor Martin Lee is taking on the ultimate endurance challenge by kayaking 2,600 miles around the coastline of Great Britain to raise awareness of rheumatoid arthritis and the National Rheumatoid Arthritis Society.

He is currently paddling his way down the east coast of Scotland, camping at various locations along the way and is due to arrive at Dunbar on Tuesday, June 12.

A keen kayaker from a young age, he was inspired to take on this solo challenge by his aunt Maureen, who has lived with the crippling disease that is rheumatoid arthritis for many years.

His journey is being broken down into the equivalent of 100 marathons over 100 days and started on April 1 at the Ahoy Centre in Deptford in south east London, where he aims to return on July 6.

Weather permitting he will be arriving at Dunbar on June 12 before saying farewell to Scotland and arriving at Berwick on June 13.
