Cockburnspath Commmunity Council raise a toast as John Hay puts his feet up

Cockburnspath Community Council sadly said goodbye to their chairman, John Hay last Wednesday evening.

John has tirelessly served the local community for 40 years as a member of the community council - many of those years as chairman.

Community council secretary Kate Tulloch said: “John will be sadly missed, but will continue to attend as many meetings as possible in an advisory capacity - his wealth of knowledge and experience will not therefore be lost, and the new chair (Pauline Hood) is very grateful to him for this.”

In a brief speech, John was sincerely thanked and referred to as the “elder statesman” of Cockburnspath.

John now intends to put his feet up and enjoy a well deserved rest!

Presentations were made to John and other members of the commubnityy council who are also retiring.

They are Marnie McGregor, Tom Dean and Clifford Bertram - all of whom were also thanked for their unstinting service amounting to many, many years”
