High school pupils want to Make a Difference for Katie-Lou

As part of Community Services Volunteers Day later on this month, students at Eyemouth High School are organising a ‘Katie Lou Friendship Disco’ to be held at the school on Friday, October 26.

The disco, for 12-14 year olds, will raise money for the Care for Katie Lou Trust to enable vital changes to be made to her home for when she leaves hospital.

CSV Make a Difference Day, the UK’s single biggest day of volunteering is for many a first chance to volunteer. Two thirds of people who volunteer have not done so before, and of those, two thirds go on to volunteer again.

There are a host of events going on right across the Borders as the UK bids to make this year’s Make a Difference day the biggest to date.

Charity shops throughout Scotland are also welcoming volunteers to try being part of the team sorting, displaying and selling the donated items in store. Volunteering in a charity shop is an incredible opportunity to gain retail experience and meet new people. This year CSV Make a Difference Day takes place on Saturday, October 27, with activities taking place the two weeks either side. Whether you want to take part with your company, school, community group, or even go it alone, get in touch now by visiting www.csv.org.uk/difference or calling 0800 284 533.

Although not connected with CSV, another fundraising event being held to raise money for Katie-Lou is a car boot sale at The Chirnside Inn this Sunday, October 14 from 9am-12 noon.

All proceeds from car pitches and the sale of tea and coffee will go to the Care for Katie-Lou Trust. There is room for 15 cars so pre-booking is advised 01890818034. £5 per car (no vans and no trade). Organisers are also hosting their own little stall with any donations from the public that they can sell. All proceeds from this will also go to Katie Lou. It is planned to hold a sale on the second Sunday of every month.
