Since starting up in 2010 it’s been the goal of

Generate Radio to achieve FM status but unfortunately the station was dealt the blow last week that this wasn’t to be.

The station, managed by Kyle Wilson and Oscar McAndrew has entertained its loyal listeners from its premises in Duns Market Square since April 2010 as well as making a real difference to the community through various fundraising events and encouraging local talent.

Growth led to a need to access more listeners to remain viable and so a lengthy application process was embarked upon with Kyle and Oscar wanting to obtain a highly prized FM licence. Unfortunately Ofcom decided that Generate Radio weren’t to be one of the lucky ones.

Kyle explained: “FM would have meant people in their cars and at work being able to tune in all day and that in turn would have led to us being all the more attractive to advertisers. Sadly without that sort of revenue Generate Radio quickly becomes unsustainable. The more we have grown, all driven by the needs of our community, the more costly some things have become.”

But the bad news doesn’t mean the end for Generate. Kyle and Oscar are hoping the brand will prosper in another form.

With an official launch to be arranged the new venture will simply be Generate but will maintain Kyle and Oscar’s original aims of helping to promote up and coming music acts in the area and getting to the heart of the community.
