Eyemouth seeks top young citizen

The Rotary Club of Eyemouth and District is launching its Young Citizen of the Year competition on Monday (March 25).

The competition will be run with support from BHA, Ahlstrom Chirnside Ltd and the Eyemouth Chamber of Trade and Commerce.

The aim of the competition is to highlight and recognise the positive contributions that so many young people make to our lives in so many different ways, and it is open to all young people up to the age of 25 who are nominated by an educational establishment, an employer, a voluntary group/club or organisation or an individual.

The only fixed criterion is that the nominees work or are resident within the catchment area of Eyemouth and District Rotary Club, beetween Cockburnspath, Lamberton and Reston.

The initial proposal forms will be available from any Eyemouth Rotarian, the Church Street office of Doughtys, Eyemouth Rotary Club website or by contacting the club president by email at jo.pawley@virgin.net .

Judging will be in two stages and nominees will be interviewed firstly by an invited judging panel of five members. The judging panel of Rotarians, business professionals, is in the process of being finalised and will be announced prior to the closing date for entries to the competition. A selection of up to ten nominees will then be invited for interview by a panel of three judges the final three contenders will be selected at this stage with presentations made at a specially convened meeting of the Rotary Club.

Initial nomination forms are required to be completed and returned to Jim Hettrick, Mill House, Eyemouth, TD14 5RE, by Apri 29 and the winners will be announced on Monday, May 27. The winner will be presented with an Amazon Kindle Fire.
