EYEMOUTH High School pupil and cadet Izzi MacLean has been selected to participate in the 2013 Jungle Adventure Project organised by British war veteran Bill Cormack.

A group of deserving Young Carers and Army Cadets have been selected to participate in the programe which aims to provide young people with the opportunity to visit and live in the jungle as well as meet people from different cultures.

Furthermore, the project promotes team building skills as well as helps the young people to become more self reliant and is only for those who have a truly adventurous spirit; it is certainly not just a free holiday to the jungle.

While in Brunei the group will spend two days preparing for living in the jungle before spending a further ten days practising the skills needed for survival in this type of climate. Before leaving for the jungle, the group will complete training sessions as well as a hill walking weekend to test fitness levels and bring them together.

Izzi is extremely excited about the adventure although she didn’t think she stood a chance of being chosen because of her age.

She commented: “I didn’t realise that I was two years younger than everyone else who is going into the jungle. I am thrilled that I have been picked.

“I was really nervous the day before I found out but my family and friends gave me great support. The cadets have been great and are even willing to help me raise some of the money needed to go on the trip.

“One of my ideas for fundraising is a sponsored stay awake.”

It is the responsibility of each participant to raise the money needed to fund their portion of the trip and Izzi has a few more fundraising ideas up her sleeve.
