Duns First Responders take to the hills

DUNS First Responders are extending their area of operation to include an “outreach area” which takes in some of the remote communities in the Lammermuir Hills.

Chairman of Cranshaws, Ellemford and Longformacus Community Council, Mark Rowley, explained: “Our small, scattered rural communities recognise that distance and remoteness add additional risks when something goes wrong, so we are thrilled that the Duns First Responders have offered to extend their territory up into the Lammermuir Hills.

“We can’t thank them enough.

“Whilst we hope they’ll never be called into action, we are sure their offer of help will be a reassurance to many residents and visitors, as will the public access defibrillators that will shortly be available in Cranshaws, Ellemford and Longformacus.

“Many walkers, cyclists, anglers, tourists and country sports enthusiasts visit the Lammermuirs and so these defibrillators, situated close to the Southern Upland Way are particularly well sited.”

To show support for the additional coverage being offered by Duns First Responders a coffee morning is being organised in Longformacus Village Hall, on Saturday, October 6, from 10.30am to 12 noon.

Thanks to the Lammermuir Community Fund there are three defibrillators - in the two village halls, plus one at the bottomg of Rigfoot at the bus shelter - throughout the community council area and during the coffee morning there will be a full explanation and demonstration on how to use them by members of the Duns First Responders team and the Scottish Ambulance service.

Explaining where the debrillators are situated, Mark added: “The green sign with a white lightening bolt will tell you where to exactly find one.

“We hope folk will come along to the information event for a chat, coffee and a cake and discover just how safe and easy this life-saving piece of equipment is to use.”

Donations to the Duns First Responders would be very welcome.
