Duns and Coldstream libraries close their doors temporarily

DUNS and Coldstream Libraries are both due to close on October 22 for approximately eight to nine weeks.

When they re-open in mid-December the libraries will also incorporate Scottish Borders Council’s Contact Centre services as well as the library services - and at Duns the town’s registrar’s office as well.

SBC say of the closures: “This is to allow for the refurbishment and re-organisation of the library as an integrated library and contact centre. Work at the library is expected to take approximately eight to nine weeks.

“The new integrated library and contact centre is expected to re-open in mid-December, 2012. The opening date will be confirmed as work progresses.

“During the closure period, your nearest library will be Eyemouth Library or Kelso Library, and a replacement mobile library service will be provided.

“We apologise for any inconvenience to our library users.”

Users are asked to contact Library Headquarters on 01750-20842 for further information or visitwww.scotborders.gov.uk/libraries

The work is part of a restructuring programme with library and contact centres in six Borders towns being integrated (Duns, Coldstream, Kelso, Jedburgh, Selkirk and Innerleithen).

James Swinton and Co Ltd from Hawick has been awarded the contract for the construction at the five integrated sites which are being taken forward in this phase.

The contact centres will remain open as normal when building work is underway.

Staff training for the integrated library and contact centre services will continue in the run up to the opening of the first sites.
