Disruption as snow returns earlier than expected
WITH snow arriving in the region earlier than originally expected today, Scottish Borders Council has begun to send some Borders pupils home, although schools in Berwickshire have yet to be affected.
The forecast suggested that heavy snow would affect the region from 11am through until the early hours of tomorrow morning but snow began to fall before then and after a teleconference between SBC and the Met Office at 9am the decision was made to send Peebles High School pupils who live in and around the West Linton, Broughton and Romanno Bridge areas home on school transport. Children at Broughton and Newlands Primary Schools who require school transport are also going home.
The council expect that there could be some disruption to school transport this afternoon should snow continue to fall. Parents and carers will be informed through the groupcall system and updates will be provided on local radio, SBC’s website and social media feeds.
Roads which have proved problematic to drivers all week continue to cause problems with the C98 beyond Longformacus towards Gifford closed and the B6355 Cranshaws to Gifford also badly affected with SBC advising motorists not to use the road.
