‘Dear Auld Hiermooth Toon’ raises £1,600

AN Eyemouth man who pulled together and published the written work of talented locals has donated more than £1,500 to two of the town’s most valued organisations.

Jack Willox exposed the hidden writing talents of Eyemouth residents, both past and present, in his book ‘Dear Auld Hiemooth Toon’ in 2010.

It took Jack the best part of a year to pull all the written gems together, and the book, comprising a series of poems and songs by the people of Eyemouth, proved to be an instant favourite with both locals and visitors alike.

As soon as copies of ‘Dear Auld Hiemooth Toon’ hit the shelves they flew back off again, and last year Jack divided the proceeds between two local organisations, giving £500 each to the Eyemouth RNLI and Eyemouth Pipe Band.

The book has continued to prove popular in 2012, and as a result Jack is this week donating a further £300 apiece to the life boat and the pipe band.

“It’s sold exceptionally well and exceeded all of my expectations,” Jack explained. “There must have been in excess of 400 copies sold.

“Since I donated the first lot of money last year the book has continued to sell so I’m now writing both the lifeboat and the pipeband another cheque.”

‘Dear Auld Hiemooth Toon’ features a number of poems about the town’s fishing industry, including work by Margaret Waddell and Henry Blaikie.
