Council group reviews Community Council Scheme

Scottish Borders Council recently held the first meeting as part of a review of its Community Council Scheme.

The Community Council Scheme, last reviewed in 2007, is the guiding document for all community councils operating in the region and covers a range of procedural and non procedural information including how to establish a new community council, how to become a community councillor, and the geographical areas covered by all community councils.

The group charged with conducting the review consists of Scottish Borders councillors and community councillors who will be supported by SBC officers throughout the process.

Members of the group were nominated at the council’s Area Forum meetings that took place at the end of 2012.

Representing Berwickshire are Councillor John Greenwell and community councillor Kym Bannerman from Grantshouse and the group is chaired by Mid-Berwickshire Councillor Frances Renton.

The meeting agendas and accompanying papers are available on the Council’s website at www.scotborders.gov.uk/communitycouncils

Comments and suggestions are welcome from community councils and members of the public throughout the process and should be sent to Clare Malster at cmalster@scotborders.gov.uk or on 01835 826626.
