Coldstream’s defibrillators

COLDSTREAM’S three defibrillators, bought after over £8000 was raised by the town in six months, have been bought and are in the process of being put in place.

The defibrillators are to be placed at the golf course, the bowling club at the top of Home Park and on the side of the Town Hall building, just off the High Street.

The fund raising has been done by the Coldstream Health Centre Trust and Simon Hogg, who spearheaded the campaign, said this week: “ The reason there has been a bit of a hold up is that we can’t get insurance for them because they are in an open box with a code on the front.

“We need to insure it against vandalism, theft and have public liability but insurance companies don’t seem to want to know.”

The reason for it being in an open box is so that it can be accessed as quickly as possible - the whole point of the defibrillator being to help someone as quickly as possible.

They are there to provide immediate assistance in the case of someone having a heart attack, while waiting for paramedics to arrive, and the defibrillators are very simple to use, with instructions given at every stage.
