BRUSSEL sprouts are not to everyone’s taste but sprout picker Jelena Kecedzi appears to have developed a full bodied passion for them!
Cockburnspath-based firm Drysdale’s are Tesco’s main sprout supplier and staff are now busy harvesting them to prepare for the pre-Christmas rush.
The Berwickshire firm has 1,000 acres of sprouts and produces a whopping 6,500 tonnes of the small green vegetables every year.
From December 13 Drysdales staff will work around the clock in the fields and the factory to ensure their sprouts are on the supermarket shelves.
In the seven days before Christmas last year Tesco sold 1,600 tonnes of sprouts which works out at about 55 million!
