A 12-YEAR-OLD Eyemouth High student could have a gig many established artists would love to bag- a performance at London’s 02 thanks to her being crowned the winner of the local round of a UK wide talent search.

The UK School talent tour made its first Scottish stop at the school just before pupils broke up for their Christmas holidays last month and 18 talented acts took to the stage in front of a panel of industry judges.

The talent show is making its way around 200 schools in the UK looking to find a young star and Chloe Wightman could well be that person after she was chosen as the winner of the Eyemouth heat thanks to a rousing rendition of Caro Emerald’s ‘That Man’.

Although rather modest, the lady herself said she was really pleased to have been chosen as the victor.

“I was quite nervous on the night but I think it helped that I couldn’t actually see the judges when I was on stage because of all the lights,” Chloe told ‘The Berwickshire’ whilst preparing for the school’s own musical revue ‘Eye Got Talent’ on the last day of term. “I felt good after coming off stage and thought I’d done well but it was still a shock when they said my name. If I do end up getting to perform at 02 Indigo I’d be really chuffed.”

Eyemouth is the only school in Scotland to have taken part in the competition so far so now Chloe must wait to see if the judges will include her in a regional heat with competitiors from north east England or put her straight through to London.

Eyemouth High drama teacher Andrea Thacker said there was no denying Chloe had a real talent.

“She has such a good voice yet I remember when she first came along to sing for me at the school’s glee club and she insisted on standing behind the curtain she was that shy. But as soon as I heard her voice I got her by the arm and took her in front of the curtain; she was way too good to hide away!”

If she does go to London, Chloe will be joined on her trip by another Eyemouth pupil, who is due to be announced shortly following a wildcard vote on UK Talent’s Facebook page.
