Children’s books collected for Gambian school

COLLECTION points for books suitable for children aged between three and 12 years have been set up across eastern Berwickshire.

After hearing that pupils in a new school in Gambia were unable to read the books they were given because they weren’t written in English S1 and S2 pupils at Eyemouth High School set up the Books4Gambia project to send them books written in English.

Pupils Suzanna Hammersley (S2) and Eve Johnstone (S1) explain: “ We are collecting books from all over the area to go to our cause in Gambia.

“We are sending any collected books to a newly built primary school in Gambia, which is in great need of YOUR old books!

“We are collecting books from the following places and would appreciate any donation: Eyemouth - the library, high school, primary school and community centre; Chirnside - community centre; Coldingham Primary School; Ayton Primary School; Reston Primary School; Cockburnspath Primary School.

“If you have any old books suitable for ages 3-12 years we would greatly appreciate receiving them.

“All the books need to be donated by April 30 so that they can be in Gambia for September at the start of a new school year!

“We are really excited about this project and think it is an amazing opportunity for not only these children, but us as well!”
