Check your speed when driving past Houndslow

HOUNDSLOW is to have pedestrian signs placed on both approaches on the A697 road after complaints about safety from local residents.

With several school children living in the village crossing the busy A road several times each day to catch the local bus to and from school and poor visibility where they cross, local residents contacted local MSP John Lamont about what they considered a significant safety hazard.

Having persuaded Scottish Borders Council that the signs were needed Mr Lamont said: “I am glad that they have listened to this and the voices of local residents, and agreed to put in pedestrian signs on both of the A697 approaches. There was undoubtedly a need to take measures to help improve safety in Houndslow. Every day cars and HGVs travel along this road at high speed, with very little warning that they are about to travel through a residential area.

“I can only hope that anyone travelling through the area in the future will now think twice about what speed they are doing.”
