Candidates sought for childminding course

A FREE childminding induction course is being offered to people from across the Scottish Borders who may be looking for a new career.

The course is being run by the Scottish Childminding Association (SCMA), and those who complete all six sessions will be eligible for start-up grants to help with the initial cost of setting up their business.

Sessions will be run from 6.30-9.30pm from Wednesday, October 31- to Wednesday, December 2and will take place at the Langlee CPD Centre in Galashiels.

Raquel Lloyd-Jones, childminding development officer for the region said: “Childminding is a demanding but rewarding career which makes a valuable contribution to the community. Being cared for by a childminder offers children the opportunity to learn from real life experiences and also flexibility for parents.”

The course covers an introduction to childminding, meeting the needs of children, creating the right environment, raising awareness of child protection and emergency first aid, and working in partnership with parents.

For more information and to book a place on the course please contact SCMA’s Helpline on 01786 449063 from Monday-Friday, 10am to 4pm .
