Brave Katie MacLean now in stable condition

AFTER spending more than a fortnight in a critical condition in Edinburgh Royal Infirmary, 14-year-old Eyemouth girl Katie MacLean is showing signs of recovery.

The Eyemouth High School pupil was rushed into hospital after a wave knocked her into the sea in Eyemouth on Monday, June 4 as she tried to save her 13 year old friend Tempany Sylvester.

Witnesses said that Katie could have been face down in the water for up to 20 minutes as police and a group of passers by tried their hardest to save her.

She was eventually pulled to safety by the coastguard and given CPR before being taken to Edinburgh and earlier this week Lothian and Borders Police confirmed that those involved in the rescue were in line for a police bravery award.

Ever since the incident, The Berwickshire’s Facebook and Twitter have been inundated with people passing on their best wishes to Katie and her family and asking for updates on her condition.
