Borders fourth in Scottish green energy league table

THE extent of the green revolution in the Borders and south of Scotland is revealed in the first ever Scottish Green Energy League Table with the area coming in fourth place.

Nearly a quarter of people in the South of Scotland (24 per cent) have considered installing or have already fitted money-saving low-carbon upgrades to their homes, new research by the Energy Saving Trust has revealed.

Environmentally-friendly adults in Aberdeen, Aberdeenshire, Angus and Dundee city topped the inaugural table, with almost a third (31 per cent) thinking about installing or have installed solar panels, wind turbines or similar renewable energy systems in their home which will save cash and carbon dioxide emissions.

Energy Saving Trust is urging South of Scotland homeowners to act now and upgrade, before interest-free Scottish Government loans – of up to £10,000 towards the cost of renewables systems – end.

The scheme is currently due to finish in March so homeowners should claim the cash while they can.

The new statistics are based on an Energy Saving Trust YouGov survey of over 1,000 Scottish adults. The survey found solar panels are southern Scotland’s favourite green purchase, with 19 per cent saying they had considered installing the technology in their home or had them already.
