Borders arrests in Made from Crime campaign

Over £108,000 in cash and over £26,000 worth of drugs was seized by police in the Lothian and Borders force area as part of one of the biggest campaigns of its kind in Scotland.

During the three day ‘Made from Crime’ crackdown across the east of Scotland last week 400 uniformed and detective officers actively pursued suspects which led to over £225,000 of cash being seized and £7 million in assets.

£316,000 of drugs and £25,440 worth of stolen and counterfeit goods were also seized as well as two vehicles.

Thirty eight properties were searched in the Lothian and Borders region which led to 44 arrests.

The drugs seized by officers totalled £26,650, while cash amounted to £108,335; stolen goods to £9,585; counterfeit goods £9,65 and counterfeit cash £1,000.

Breaking the figures down further to G Division (the Borders), seven properties were searched which led to two arrests. Drugs seized by police officers in the region totalled £80; cash £300 and counterfeit cash £1000.

Detective Superintendent David Gordon, Head of Serious Organised Crime for the Specialist Crime Division in the East of Scotland, said: “This campaign was deliberately designed to be ambitious and tenacious and target criminals who believed they could live lavish lifestyles from the proceeds of crime.

“The response we had from local communities throughout the intelligence gathering phase was fantastic, and showed that they were not prepared to tolerate criminality in their area. This is not the end of our activity and I would appeal to people to continue to come forward. We will not stand for criminality in our communities in Scotland.”
