Benefits of group energy switching
BORDERERS are being urged to see if they can save money on their energy bills by taking part in ‘Scots Together’, a collective energy switching initiative.
The initiative, which was launched on February 18, and runs until March 17, aims to get a better deal on energy prices for people living in Scotland by buying energy together.
Through a partnership with Changeworks and UK Together, a collective of the local authorities in south east Scotland, including Scottish Borders Council, were successful in bidding for funding from the Department of Energy and Climate Change (DECC) to help with this pilot.
Borderers can check if the group deal will save them money by visiting www.scotstogether.com and entering details of their current deal, which can be found on a recent energy bill.
There’s an advice line for people who don’t have internet access or would prefer to talk to someone directly - freephone 0800 408 0155, and again have a recent energy bill handy when calling.
Borders MP Michael Moore said: “I know that many Borderers are concerned about rising energy bills, with many particularly struggling during the winter period.
“This is why I want to encourage local people to get involved with this scheme and see if they can get a better deal on their gas and electricity.
“With collective switching, power in numbers means that initiatives like this can often get consumers a better price than they would get as an individual buyer. It is definitely worth checking out and people need to be quick because it’s only open until March 17.”
