Ayton-Chirnside road closed
SCOTTISH Borders Council has been forced to close the B6355 Ayton to Chirnside road in both directions as a result of a culvert collapsing under the road.
A council spokesperson told ‘The Berwickshire News’ that work had started on repairing the route of the road and the 900mm pipe which is required to replace the old culvert will be delivered this week.
A diversion route is in place along the A6105 Berwick road for all traffic.
The council’s director of Environment and Infrastructure, Rob Dickson explained: “The extremely wet conditions we have experienced over the last few months has clearly taken its toll on our local roads.
“This is another example of the type of damage caused by such heavy rain. This is a very challenging time but we continue to do all we can to carry out repairs as quickly as is possible.
“We hope to have this road re-opened to traffic before the end of next week and would like to thank drivers for their patience in the meantime.”
The SBC spokesperson said further information would be issued as soon as is possible.
