Arrangements place emphasis on better carer engagement
THE Learning Disability Partnership Board has launched its new Learning Disability governance arrangements which aim to encourage an improved decision making and engagement process between people with a disability and their family carers.
A Governance Structure was first developed in 2006 under the Community Health and Care Partnership to ensure engagement with patients, family carers, the community and key agencies on the strategic development of services.
Then in 2010, the Scrutiny Committee of Scottish Borders Council sponsored a review of the Governance Structure and the proposed new structure was eventually approved by Scottish Borders Council and NHS Borders following consultation with all stakeholders involved.
Tricia Hunter, joint manager, Learning Disability Service for NHS Borders and Scottish Borders Council said: “The new Governance structure will promote an improved, transparent decision making process.
“In addition, engagement with people with a learning disability and their family carers will be enhanced through the development of locality based Citizen Panels and a Citizen Panels Leaders’ group.
“We have also revised our Vision, Value and Aims for people with a Learning Disability which reflects our commitment to active citizenship and the provision of services which strive to promote Health, Equality of Opportunity and Safety for all people with a learning disability.”
