Anna looks forward to her big day
Young Anna Gourlay will be crowned the 2012 Dunbar Gala Queen this weekend as the town’s Civic Week celebrations get underway.
The festivities start tomorrow (Friday, June 15) with Dunbar Lyric Group 50’s Night. Admission is Adults £10, Children £5. Supper is included and a bar is available.
Saturday of course is the big day of the week with entertainment startin Lauderdale Park at 10.30.
The Crowning of Civic Week Queen will be held in the Park at 12 noon. Anna’s attendants are Bethany Peffers and Anique Burke and her younger attendants are Milia Berggren, Krista Lawler, Ryan Campbell, Hamish Nicolson and Ruairdh Page.
The crowning ceremony is followed by the Parade to the John Muir Campus for ther School Fair from 1pm to 4pm.
On Sunday evening the Country Faith Gospel Singers, hosted by Dunbar Baptist Church, perform at 6.30pm in Dunbar Day Centre
Admission is free and the event is followed by refreshments.
Friends of Winterfield are holding a Dog Show on Monday evening at 6pm.
Registration for 6.30pm judging. Entry is 50p per dog per class.
From 6pm the Dunbar Tennis Centre at Winterfield Park hosts a Try Tennis Session with games and competitions.
At 6.30pm for 7pm on Tuesday night, June 19, the judging for the Countess Youth Club Pet Show begins at the Bleachingfield Centre.
Entries, on the night, cost 50p per pet.
At 7pm there will be a Coffee Evening in Dunbar Day Centre with entertainment by D. Davies. Admission is £3.
On Wednesday a Bookbug session is to be held in Dunbar Library with rhymes and stories for babies to four-year-olds. This starts at 10am.
In the evening the Five-A-Side Football kicks off at 6pm at Hallhill, organised by Dunbar United Colts. Teams register on the night.
At 3pm on Thursday the Dunbar Library Storytime will be staged at the new storytelling window for P2 and under. Admission is free.
From 6.30pm-8pm a Fun Swim is being held in the Leisure Pool with Dunbar Swimming Club. Visitors £2.
The British Legion is the venue for a Quiz Night starting at 7.30pm. Entry costs £2.50 per player to include supper. A maximum of six players iin a team.
On Friday evening at 8pm, Dunbar Music Club presents The Bevvy Sisters, Baffies and The Restless Natives at the Rossburgh Hotel.
The Dunbar United Colts Football Tournament, for age groups 9-11 years, will be held on Saturday from 9.30am to 4.30pm.
The Junior Hockey Club are holding a seven-a-side tournament on Saturday. Registration for S1-S2 teams is at 10am for a start at 10.30. Registration for S3-6 teams is at 1pm for a start at 1.30pm. Entry is £1 per player
The Belhaven Church Fete gets underway at 2pm
On Sunday a Bike Fest will be held at Hallhill from 2-5pm with Cycle Speedway at 2.30pm followed by a Bike Parade.
The week’s festivities will be brought to a close on Sunday with the traditional Harbour Service starting at 6.3pm.
The Salvation Army Band will be taking part. St Anne’s Church will be the venue in the event of wet weather.
During the weeks there are a number of other events and attractions including a Jubilee Art Exhibition, Crafty Plants in Lawson Place in Aid of Unicef, Spot the Kitiwake Competiton and the Dunbar Traders Window Competition.
From June 18-23 the Art Club Exhibtion will be staged in Our Lady Of The Waves Church Hall from 10am to 4pm.
