Local firms raise cash for Sport Relief

General Mills and other local employers raised £1,000 for Sport Relief with a charity football tournament at the Pier Field in Berwick on Sunday.

Businesses taking part included Simpsons Malt, Allan Brothers, Future Industrial, Silvery Tweed, Asda, Ahlstrom, Greenvale AP, and Pearsons of Duns. The tournament was eventually won by Simpsons Malt who defeated General Mills 1-0 in the final.

Several other events also took place on the day, including a penalty shoot-out won by five year-old Blake Dytor and fun races organised by the Swan Centre for Leisure.

Paula Dixon of General Mills, said: “A great day was had by all who took part in the tournament. All the companies involved, and the spectators, said it was fun and it had a real community and family atmosphere around it.”

Charity and raffle donations were made by Forte Brother Event Catering, Lieper Entertainment, Tesco, Morrison’s and Simpsons Malt. The organisers would like to thank Berwick Cricket Club and Springhill FC for use of the facilities, Tweedmouth FC for goals and Lowick FC for footballs, referees Anthony Hogg, Peter Fletcher, Hugh Boyd and Darren Thomas and Lee Mark Electricals.
