St Abbs’ lifeboat crew responded to an emergency call this evening - just as a protest march against their station being closed was ending.

The emergency saw volunteers launch their lifeboat within two minutes, and head north of St Abbs Head.

There, they picked up three men, and brought them into the village’s station where the Coastguard had arrived.

The crew then immediately headed straight out to sea, in order to tow the mens’ boat, which had been filling with water, into the harbour.

Earlier, just under 300 people, many sporting t-shirts supporting the campaign to Save St Abbs Lifeboat, had marched through the village in a further show of support.
