The Jim Clark Museum crowdfunding campaign is off to a roaring start, with almost £41,000 committed in just over a week.
Sir Jackie Stuart launched the public appeal at Race Retro to provide the remaining £300,000 needed to extend and upgrade the museum premises in Newtown Street, Duns.
Scottish Borders Council has committed £620,000 towards the £1.6m refurbishment programme and the Jim Clark Trust is applying for a Heritage Lottery Fund grant of £680,000.
A spokesperson for the Jim Clark Trust said: “Messages of encouragement have poured in from motor racing enthusiasts as far afield as Australia, Europe, Japan and the USA – underlining Jim Clark’s worldwide influence and legacy.
“News items on the campaign have already featured in the likes of Motor Sport Magazine, Midweek Motorsport, the Daily Record, the Sun, the Times and the Berwickshire News, while stars such as Gordon Shedden, Jonny Adam and Tiff Needell have been tweeting about it. However, we have a long way to go to secure the £300,000 required to make the new museum a reality.
“Please encourage friends, family and colleagues with an interest in motorsport to visit Crowdfunder and pledge their support. With your support we can make this happen.”
