There’s absolutely no chance of Berwickshire youngsters being bored during the approaching summer holidays, there’s so much going on.

Connect Berwickshire Youth Trust has been successful in applying for a £7600 Big Lottery grant to run a full programme of activities, outings and adventures throughout the whole holiday period; and Scottish Borders Council’s ‘What’s on for Kids’ brochure is full of activities to keep families occupied during the holidays.

Connect are putting together a flyer which will be given to all primary and high school children in Berwickshire listing all there is to do this summer.

“As well as giving us the opportunity to provide an amazing programme of activities and paid for trips for the kids (they only having to pay daily subs) this grant also means that we can employ a couple of young people to help with delivery of the programme, giving them invaluable experience and work opportunities that will help them in the future,” said Connect manager Steve Wright.

“On top of that all our regular staff will be kept busy throughout the summer holidays.”

The final touches are being put to the programme which so far includes: outdoor adventures - a two day sailing course, and a trip to Ratho Climbing Centre; trips - to Edinburgh Museum, and Blair Drummond Safari Park; projects - outdoor drama, fruit picking, baking and jam making, to name just a few. The plan is to have a weekly trip away bringing together youngsters from across the district.
