THIRTY Explorer Scouts and Leaders from Borders District Explorer Scout Section recently attended a District outdoor camp at Bonaly Scout Centre, near Edinburgh.

The camp activities included raft building, canoeing and having a whole lot of fun camping outdoors, in a beautiful woodland setting, in tepees.

Over the summer Borders District Explorer Scouts attended the Blair Atholl International Jamboree and by all accounts had an experience of a lifetime making many new friends.

In the summer of 2013 Explorer Scouts from Gala and Eyemouth will be taking part in a Borders District run expedition to the island of Taiwan, just off the coast of mainland China, to take part in a cultural exchange with Taiwanese Scouts. The year of the dragon is being celebrated and at a recent training camp this festive event was celebrated by making huge dragon masks, which did breathe fire!

Explorer Scouts from Eyemouth are also venturing to Norway to take part in a large international Scout camp and by all accounts are looking forward to a glimpse of the Northern Lights.

Robert Bathgate, an Explorer Scout from Gala, is taking part in an Explorer Belt Expedition to Estonia.

This involves a 10 day expedition carrying out projects along the route while meeting local people and sharing the Estonian culture.
