The Lord Lieutenant of Berwickshire, Major Alexander Trotter FRSA, has appointed Ian Swanston Waddell to be a Deputy Lieutenant of Berwickshire.
Deputy Lieutenants are chosen by the local Lord-Lieutenant to assist them with any of their duties as may be required.
Mr Waddell, a fish merchant and Justice of the Peace from Eyemouth, will officially take up the role in a fortnight. He said: “I’m looking forward to getting started in the role and working with Major Trotter and the other deputies.
“We’ve got the Queen’s Jubilee next year and Berwickshire will be represented in some form; it would be a great privilege to be there.”
Mr Waddell has been a fish merchant for 42 years, but he has also been involved with Scottish Borders Council and the Scottish Borders Tourist Board, as well as serving as a Justice of the Peace.
“I think it’s my involvement with SBC, Scottish Borders Tourist Board and being a Justice of the Peace that has influenced this appointment,” he said. “All my family and friends are really pleased for me and I’m sure it’ll be a learning curve.”
