DUNBAR Sea Cadets have been awarded the prestigious Burgee, the highest recognition of achievement in the Sea Cadet Corps.

The Burgee was awarded following the unit’s recent annual inspection and presented on by Daniel Jardine, deputy director of training for Marine Society and Sea Cadets.

The Burgee reflects the high level of training, community participation, events, uniform, and staff and cadet attendance of the unit.

Achieving the Burgee for Dunbar was part of a five year plan and PO Michael Kaszuba, Officer in Charge of the unit, is delighted that the award has come a year ahead of schedule.

The accolade is testament to the growing status and reputation of the unit.

The award is handed out on an annual basis, which means that one of the Dunbar Sea Cadets’ challenges for the year ahead is to ensure that the unit continues to maintain its high standards, towards securing another Burgee at the end of 2013.
