A near gale left Dunbar RNLI volunteers with a tricky job of towing a crippled fishing boat through the narrow entrance of the town’s harbour with just enough water to cover the bar.

The single handed crew member of the creel boat Selina May asked for assistance after loosing his steering off Torness Power Station in an near Northerly gale.

Coastguards requested assistance from both Dunbar lifeboats to get the crewman and his stricken vessel safely back to harbour.

Coxswain Gary Fairbairn said: “We took the casualty in tow and brought him back to the harbour. The tide was right out and we kept towing into the wind waiting for the flood to begin. We handed the tow over to the inshore lifeboat and they towed him in and berthed him alongside the quay.”
