Conservative politicians John Lamont MSP and David Mundell MP have made the case for community hospitals in a meeting with senior officials from NHS Borders.
The health board, represented by chairman John Raine and senior managers, committed to a full public dialogue on any future changes to frontline services.
There has been widespread concern about the futures of community hospitals in Duns, Kelso and Peebles after NHS Borders announced a review of all clinical services due to budget pressures.
At the meeting, both politicians stressed the importance that local communities placed on the network of community hospitals and repeated calls for full engagement with local residents.
Mr Lamont said: “I was clear to stress NHS Borders must consider the limitations of public transport away from Borders General Hospital.”
