Johnny Rutherford (12) and David Fotheringham (15) from the Foulden based East March Judo Club made the journey North for the Granite City Open GP.

Johnny was first on the mats competing in the A Band boys U42kg and fought strongly to win his first two fights securing his place in the finals. In a hard but evenly matched bout Johnny narrowly missed out on gold but was happy to bring home the silver medal.

David competed in the Cadet Boys U50kg category. On reaching the finals David was thrilled that just 70 seconds into the fight he gained a submission from his opponent to comfortably secure the gold medal.

Coaches George Tones and Gavin Smith are delighted with the progress of Johnny and David but have warned them it’s time to learn from any mistakes made. Training started on Sunday in preparation for the finale of the Grand Prix League at The Scottish National Championships in November. In December they will be finishing the year off with a trip south to the British Championships.
