Gavinton memorial gates ‘unnecessary’

The possibility of installing gates on the path leading to the Ann Smith Memorial at Gavinton has been considered by Gavinton, Fogo and Polwarth Communuity Council.

The owners of the land on which the memorial sits have fenced off much of their property due to dog-fouling, but access remains.

Although the paths through the wood are not recorded as a right of way, SBC has offered to record them if it can be demonstrated that the public has had access for over 20 years.

It would then be necessary for gates to be installed to maintain the right of way, but councillors feel gates would not enhance the area as the landowner has cleared an alternative path.
