FOLLOWING a morning of torrential rain the sun shone on the Duns Branch of the Royal British Legion Scotland’s Vintage Tractor Pull and Fun Afternoon on Sunday in Duns Market Square.
This special event, which coincided with the anniversary of VE Day, was held to mark the branch’s 90th anniversary
Duns Pipe Band started off the afternoon entertaining those who had ventured out with umbrellas in hand and then local strong men and women were invited to participate in the Vintage Tractor Pull.
The Tractor Pull was eventually won by Shug’s Favourites. Second were the Hawthorns and third were the Citizens. First for the ladies were the Legion Ladies who were the only female team entered.
St Ronan’s Silver Band from Innerleithen entertained the crowds with a wonderful medley of music while the stalls at the charities market was kept busy throughout the afternoon.
The afternoon culminated with Beating the Retreat which saw Duns Pipe Band and St Ronan’s Silver Band playing together - a fantastic sight on a sunny evening.
The Lord Lieutenant of Berwickshire, Major Alexander Trotter took the salute ending a wonderful weekend of anniversary celebrations.
On Friday evening a very successful Annual Dinner was held in the clubrooms.
The Legion is holding a Charities Quiz in aid of Help for Heroes this Saturday in the clubrooms. Entry is £10 per team of four and this includes a light supper. There will also be a raffle.
