Freedom for Royal Regiment

when Scottish Borders Council meets today (Thursday, March 24), councillors will be asked to back a proposal to give the Royal Regiment of Scotland the Freedom of the Borders.

Councillor Alisdair Hutton, council convenor and also voice of the Edinburgh Tattoo for many years, will put forward the following motion:

“This council resolves to confer upon the Royal Regiment of Scotland the Freedom of the Scottish Borders, with Freedom of Entry into all parts of the Scottish Borders administered by this council and its successors on ceremonial occasions with colours flying.”

The Royal Regiment of Scotland, described as a new Scottish super regiment, is the amalgamation of The Royal Scots and The Kings Own Scottish Borderers in 2004.
