IT’S a competition that Berwickshire has a proud record in and Scottish Borders Council are now inviting communities throughout the Borders to enter the 2011 Floral Gateway Competition.
The competition is now in its twelfth year and is once again organised by SBC’s Parks and Open Spaces Section, in association with Beautiful Scotland.
It provides a focus for community efforts to improve the appearance of a town or village and recognises the hard work and considerable effort made by many people to enhance their local environment.
Floral Gateway is judged in five categories: wee villages with a maximum population of 300; small villages with a population between 301 and 1,000; large villages with a population between 1,001 and 2,500; towns with a population between 2,501 and 6,000, and the ‘Champion of Champions’ - which sees the category winners from the previous year go head-to-head against each other.
Judging will take place during the two weeks commencing Monday, July 18, with an awards evening at Tweed Horizons on September 6. An entry form and further information can be obtained from Esther Murdoch, competition administrator, on 01896 661777. The closing date for entries is, May 27.
