A Freedom of Information request has revealed that between the beginning of December and the end of January Scottish Borders Council spent £370,000 on flood clear-up operations.

However, SBC said that work was still on-going and it could be several months before they know the final figure, which “is likely to be much higher once all costs have been established”.

The council went on to explain that it does not have money in its budget for clearing-up after a flood and if they make a Bellwin Claim for financial assistance the council themselves will have to fund the first £508,000.
