THE driver of a car involved in a collision with a lorry on the A1 near Fenwick this morning died at the scence.

At 00:45am this morning, police received a report of a collision on the A1 near to Fenwick. The collision involved a HGV lorry and a car.

At the time of the collision the HGV was travelling south and the car north.

The driver of the lorry suffered minor injuries, was treated at hospital and later released. The driver of the car was pronounced dead at the scene.

A section of the A1 between Scremeston and Fenwick is closed and diversions are in place via B6525 to Lowick & B6353.

Police are appealing for witnesses.
