AS many retailers will profess, running a shop isn’t always easy but it’s a task that the trustees of Eyemouth Museum have taken on.
The shop in the Market Place museum had previously been run by Visit Scotland, but due to cutbacks the tourist organisation now just handle the admissions and tourist information side of things.
Not wanting to see the gift shop fold, the trustees stepped in and are now gearing up for their launch night on Thursday, July 7.
The emphasis is very much on stocking local goods and the trustees are appealing for local businesses to come on board with them for their venture.
The museum is already working in partnership with Scotland’s Landscapes Cards, Border Aromatics Soy Candles, Kiki’s Chocolates, Serafina Press Children’s Books and Chainbridge Honey Farm but are keen to hear from other firms.
And as the trustees and Visit Scotland will be working together, both are keen to hear from anyone who has a local event to promote so they can give it some publicity.
Visit Scotland often get people coming into the museum asking what events are taking place in the town, particularly during the busy summer tourist season, so would relish any information they receive.
The trustees are hoping that the people of Eyemouth and the surrounding area will get behind the shop as it’s theirs to enjoy. And to ensure everyone knows about it, a launch night will be held at the museum next Thursday from 5-8pm.
This is an opportunity for people to come and view the new shop and speak to museum and VisitScotland staff with refreshments and a prize raffle.
