SIXTEEN year old Eyemouth Explorer Scout, Sarah Woodhouse, is the only Explorer Scout from the Scottish Borders region to be selected as one of the 32 Scottish Explorer Scouts travelling to Malawi in July this year.

She has to raise £2200 for the trip and over half of this has been achieved through fundraising activities including a coffee morning and donations.

And the latest fundraising event to help Sarah on her way to Malawi was a wine tasting evening hosted by the Rotary Club of Eyemouth and District which raised £300.

The expedition this summer is the latest in a succession of trips over a number of years where Scottish Explorer Scouts have helped Malawi Scouting to develop an international campsite near Lilongwe.

This year the Explorer Scouts, working under the supervision of a number of adult leaders, will work to extend a shower block facility, improve the camp superintendents accommodation and money raised by the Scottish Scouting movement will help to build a mill for milling flour allowing Malawi Scouts to generate their own income to further develop the site.

The Explorer Scouts will camp under canvas for the entire month they are in Malawi and will have some free time to explore the area they are visiting.
