HEAVY rain caused an interuption to proceedings as Ellie Jackson was crowned the 2011 Chirnside Gala Qeen on Sunday.

The Kirklin O’ The Queen was held in Chirnside Parish Church on Sunday morning before the toasting in Robin’s Nest.

The colourful parade made its was through the village culminating at Windram Park for the crowning ceremony and then the heavens opened!

The organisers postponed the ceremony for a spell as brollies went up and coats went on but after a little delay the crowning went ahead and Ellie was officially crowned Gala Queen 2011.

Ellie’s court included: Consort - Owen James; Herald - Warren Hutton; Crown bearer - William Mortimer; attendants - Scarlet Hardy and Alexandra Vallance; Fairy Queen - India Sadler; Fairy Queen’s consort - Max Young.

P6 - Jasmin Little and Rian Paulin; P5 - Molly MacDonald and Ben Langley; P4 - Rachel Spark and Billy Ramsbottom; P3 - Jessica Scott and Ross Spark; P2 - Charlie Craze and Aaron Richardson; P1 - Georgia Scott and Ryan Muir.

The wet weather did affect the Gala Day festivities which followed but neverthless the youngsters appeared to enjoy the fun and games.

The Civic Week festivities got underway on Friday evening with the Over 40s football match at Comrades Park. In an entertaining tussle it was the Duns Over 40s who clinched victory over Chirnside by 2-0.

A Band Night was also held for high school age children in the Community Centre.

This week sees a varied programme of events for all ages. The week comes to a conclusion on Saturday with the popular ‘It’s A Knockout’ in Windram Park and the Gala Dance in the evening.
