Eccles school kitchen’s upgrade

LUNCHES for Eccles Primary school pupils will no longer spend an hour in a taxi before they get to them now that the school kitchen is getting a £26,000 upgrade over the summer holidays.

At the moment food for the children at Eccles/Leitholm Primary School is produced elsewhere then put in a taxi to be delivered to the schools. The new arrangements mean that food can be prepared on the premises.

To improve the quality, temperature and taste of the food councillors at Tuesday’s meeting of Scottish Borders Council’s executive agreed to the necessary work being carried out.

Similar arrangements are also in place for Kirkhope and Yarrow Primary Schools and councillors were told that by spending money on upgrading the kitchens a saving of £30,000 a year in taxi fares can be made; the cost of preparing food at the schools estimated at £4,320 a year.
