Duns Youth Centre re-opened after the holidays refurbished and ready to facilitate the many young people from Duns and surrounding areas.

The paintwork and new café bar equipment has been possible thanks to fundingfromOpen Doors (a group of volunteers that run a coffee morning every Thursday morning in the centre), Blackhill Wind Farm, Robertson Trust, CYPPP (Scottish Borders Council), Comic Relief (Scottish Community Foundation), Children in Need, Youth Chex and local fundraising.

A huge ‘THANK YOU’ to everyone that donates and helps fund the continued youth work/group work that goes on at the centre.

At present DYC has on offer a very active multimedia group on a Tuesday from 4-6pm plus arts and music from 7-9pm.

Have you heard the Jan and Shirley Show yet? If not then tune in at www.generateradion.com every Wednesday from 4-5pm.

If a chilled atmosphere is what you are after then come along to the Wednesday Café Bar, 7-9pm or the Friday night Café Bar 7-9.30pm.

On a Thursday from 7-9pm S1 to S3 have an exciting programme underway and on a Friday 3.30pm to 5pm P7 also enjoy varied activities.

Thanks to a grant from HLN Small Grant Scheme (NHS Borders) the centre offers many healthy eating options along with fresh fruit and salad at the lunchtime café bar.

This is a safe, warm and friendly environment for young people to meet with friends but at the same time have full access to experienced professional youth workers that do what they can to assist with young peoples’ issues.

Looking ahead to the school holiday week in February there are plans for: Monday, February 14 - graffiti art and design 1pm to 4pm; Tuesday, February 15, – more graffiti art and design 1pm to 4pm; Wednesday, February 16 - Café Bar 7pm to 9pm; Thursday, February 17 - graffiti painting 1pm to 4pm; Friday, February 18 - Café Bar 7pm to 9.30pm.
