Connect, Berwickshire Youth Project, has been running a community cafe - 10am-11.30pm - on Thursday morning which is proving to be very popular with local residents, replacing the popular open doors cafe previous run in Duns Youth Centre by Edith, Jean and Anne.
Young people plan the recipes and work really well together developing ideas and also learning cookery and food hygiene skills - the cheese scones proving a particular favourite.
Among the team of dedicated young folk are Hayley Simpson, who has been a huge part in media work, designing menus, questionnaires and getting out in the street to advertise and talk to members of the community. Kayleigh Milton and Becky Lothian who attended and passed their food hygiene course last week at Langlee and have worked each week in the cafe and baking sessions. Other young people involved in our baking group are Hana Yamine, Kirsten Blair-Simpson, Cameron Davie, Emma Patterson, Ruben Branse-Instone and Grace Bimson.
They are planning to put together a recipe book of their most popular dishes to sell at Christmas.
