Dunbar harnesses the arts

The Dunbar area is preparing to celebrate the birthday of naturalist John Muir with a series of artistic events under the North Light Arts banner.

On Saturday, April 18, Dunbar Town House will host a free composting workshop, where artist Natalie Taylor will use traditional Japanese bukashi (fermenting) methods , and teach attendees how to make a composting bin.

Between April 13 and 27, artist in residence Natalie will explore the theme of Fertile Ground: Soil.

Moving from the ground to the light, photographer Kenny Bean will use the same venue to host family workshops where plants are used to create close up imagery with macro digital cameras, and budding photographers will be shown how to edit their images using simple computer software. Family tickets are £5, for the event on Sunday, April 19, 11am-1pm and 2pm-4pm.

In the same vein, at 7pm on Saturday, April 18, art historian Ola Wojtkiewicz will deliver an informative and entertaining talk exploring how different artists throughout history have used light in their work (Dunbar Town House, tickets £4 per person).
